A wave climate describes the general characteristics of waves on a specific location and over a period of time:
- wave height
- wave period
- wave direction
At Flanders Hydraulics the wave climates are studied in the Belgian coastal area. The intention is to make these wave climates available for other studies. Examples of application are:
- research into the wave impact on sea dikes
- wave propagation in very shallow water (beaches)
- research of waves as a driver of sediment transport in the coastal zone
- waves penetrating in the coastal ports
